One Sheep Sweater

A series of 20 sweaters were each knit using the wool of individual merino sheep from Aerle Rixtel, a village in the South of the Netherlands. Both the yarn-spinning and knitting were done in a small scale industrial fashion. Although the sweaters were made in an identical way, each is different; revealing the individual quality of the wool of each different sheep through its size, colour and texture.

The sheep were photographed before and after their sheering by Roel van Tour. One Sheep Sweater was a continuation of the earlier project; One Sheep Cardigan. In this iteration Meindertsma found a type of wool that was better suited to the project and eliminated the handwork (and therefore exaggerate the potential differences in the wool itself) by using a 3D knitting machine.

The one sheep seaters are part of the collection of the Textilemuseum in Tilburg and the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam.
